Height Conversion: U.S. and Metric Systems
When discussing heights, there are two primary systems used globally:
U.S. customary system: Typically uses feet and inches.
Metric system: Uses meters and centimeters.
Conversion
Feet to meters: Multiply the number of feet by 0.3048.
Inches to centimeters: Multiply the number of inches by 2.54.
Example:
6 feet 2 inches in meters:
Convert inches to centimeters: 2 inches * 2.54 cm/inch = 5.08 cm
Convert feet to meters: 6 feet * 0.3048 m/foot = 1.8288 m
Add the meters and centimeters: 1.8288 m + 0.0508 m = 1.8796 m
Note: While most countries use the metric system, the U.S. and a few other countries still primarily use the customary system. Understanding both systems can be helpful for international communication and travel.
