Every year hundreds of school going learners exhibit their research projects at the Eskom Expo for young scientists. This science expo is a nation wide initiative and is South Africa's largest science fair. There are 35 regional science fairs held annually, these science fairs are organised and managed by a group of volunteers and would not be possible without the judging-volunteers who assess the projects of learners, using a set of criteria, in order to inspire these young scientists to go further with their research. In 2017 the KZN Central region had more than 500 participants and this number is expected to increase in 2018 therefore the region is in need of volunteers that will assist in the facilitation of the judging process. Volunteer judges can be professionals in the field of math, science and engineering or individuals who take a keen interest in these areas.
