Kyle Evans

Hi, I'm Kyle. I'm a dynamic and passionate mathematics educator that strongly believes in humanizing math and putting people (students) first.

I've always loved maps. In 2019, I created a Mathematics and Redistricting course at Trinity College. In 2021, my students were actively part of the redistricting process in Connecticut. In 2022, I analyzed Connecticut's new state legislative maps. In 2023, I launched the Connecticut Town Redistricting database.

I've always loved sports. In 2022, I created an Intro to Sports Analytics course at Trinity College. Students have worked with most teams on campus and I personally worked with the women's basketball team.
My three favorite teams are the New York Mets (I grew up near Poughkeepsie, New York), UConn women's basketball (finished my PhD there in 2018), and the United States men's national soccer team.

Mathematics is an important tool to analyze the world and can help us identify and combat issues of injustice. In 2020, I co-founded the Math Teachers' Circle 4 Social Justice, a professional development group with regular workshops to build capacity and community among secondary math teachers. As a group, we aim to shift the narrative of mathematics as a discipline that can empower us to critically examine our communities and our world by providing teachers a platform to engage in problem solving that displays the power of mathematics in promoting these critical conversations.
