Each year you will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.studentaid.gov/fafsa Use the Federal Title IV code 001980. The FAFSA will be available after October 1. You may be asked to provide certain personal documents such as a marriage certificate, SSN card, or federal tax forms.
You can check your award statement on upike.edu/selfservice once the office begins awarding. You will need to accept or reject the aid offered. You will use your UPike user name and password to log on. It is your responsibility each semester to verify that your financial aid file is complete and your tuition is paid. The award usually starts out with the maximum Federal Unsubsidized Loan. Federal Graduate Plus will be added if/when you apply.
If you have applied for or received an outside scholarship or student loan it is your responsibility to report that to the Office of Student Financial Services. Each class is assigned a standard class budget. All financial aid awarded will be within the standard budget. All grants, scholarships, loans, or service contracts are considered financial aid.
The loan cycle opens May 1. New students applying for federal loans must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling at www.studentloans.gov. Use the UPike school code 001980 when applying for loans on this federal website. (Be sure you complete the correct MPN for the unsubsidized loan.)
Returning student borrowers are not required to complete the Unsubsidized MPN and Entrance Counseling each year (unless otherwise notified).
If you are applying for the Federal Graduate Plus loan you will need to complete a credit application and sign a Graduate Plus Master Promissory Note. **This process must be completed each academic year for any borrower (new or returning) applying for the Federal Graduate Plus loan.
If you are applying for a private school loan it is your responsibility to contact the Financial Aid Office with specific details.
The Federal Unsubsidized Loans and Federal Graduate Plus Loans are most commonly used. These loans normally cover your full budget needs.
Research scholarship and grant opportunities.
Contract scholarships could be used to supplement the loans or used as an alternative to borrowing. Military and Private Hospital Scholarships are two examples. A Contract Scholarship is an agreement between you and an organization to work a certain number of years for forgiveness of your debt. With most organizations you are only allowed to be signed with one service contract at a time.
At this level of education most Federal Pell and State Grants are no longer an option.
