Government & Democratic Principles

What are the criteria for demonstrating an understanding of government and democratic principles?

Students demonstrate knowledge and applied understanding of different levels of government and democratic principles. (One or more of the following).

• Completed all relevant coursework in civics or government

• Demonstrated mastery of the Kentucky Academic Standards for Social Studies on assessments.

• Other evidence to display this mastery: Some examples include, but are not limited to: assessments, portfolios, performance tasks, projects. 

What types of resources support this criteria?

• Learning for Justice student tasks, including "write to the source" and "do something" prompts for all grade levels. 

• The Teaching for Democracy Alliance provides resources for student learning about elections and informed voting. 

• The Kentucky Council for the Social Studies has curated Civic Content, including leveled C3 inquiries with engaging performance tasks.
