What is Information Literacy?

Information literacy is the ability to find, understand, and use information in different forms like books, websites, or videos and this is seen as being important when you need to make a decision, figure out a problem, or learn something new (Skyline College, n.d.). You need to know how to research, think carefully, use computers, and communicate well to do this (Skyline College, n.d.). Knowing how to find and use information is important for doing well academically, being good at your job, and being a knowledgeable member of your community (Skyline College, n.d.). 

Why is Information Literacy Important?

According to Openoregon (n.d.), knowing how to find and use information is important for lifelong learning as this helps one solve problems and think carefully about things. One will know how to find and use information to make good choices because of information literacy. Additionally, Openoregon (n.d) states students will know find good information to make very good work because of information literacy. Openoregon (n.d.) states it is really important for students to learn how to use information ethically because this means they will understand how to respect other people's ideas and privacy.

Outcome of the lesson:

Learning about information literacy can lead to the advancement of education in the 21st century. Understanding information literacy can help students become more selective consumers of information. By teaching students how to evaluate and verify information, they can learn to identify reliable sources and avoid misinformation or fake news.
