What are Communication and Collaboration

O'Connor (2015) explains the difference between these two terms by stating that communication is when we share information with each other so we can understand each other better and that collaboration means sharing information and working together to make a product better.

Additionally O'Connor (2015) states at their center, all of them involve giving and receiving information. Collaboration means working together on something, but it can't happen if people don't talk to each other. Futhermore, O'Connor (2015) even says it is important to know that communication and collaboration are related because good communication helps relationships work well, which makes collaboration successful.

When we put these together, we get collaborative communication. Bojic (2023) state Collaborative communication means working together as a team to share ideas and information in order to reach a common goal.  

Importance of collaborative communication

Working together and talking to each other helps work go faster and be more adaptable according to Lohrey (2021). Lohrey (2021) also states that regular meetings with your team and planning sessions are chances to talk about what you need to do, who is responsible for it, and ways to help each other out. It's a time to learn what everyone else is working on and to make sure everyone knows what's expected of them. Lohrey (2021) reinforces that when a team meets and talks face-to-face, they can get to know and trust each other better. This can prevent fights and disagreements over things that might benefit one person more than the rest of the team and it helps the team solve problems together instead of making it harder (Lohrey, 2021).

Outcome of the lesson:

Students learning about communication and collaboration will help advance education in the 21st century by bringing new, innovative ideas to the table. It will teach them to work together to identify and solve problems and develop new approaches to learning that are more effective and engaging for students. By leveraging their communication and collaboration skills, students will also connect with each other, educators, and experts from around the world to share knowledge, insights, and best practices. Ultimately, these efforts can help create a more dynamic, inclusive, and student-centered education system that prepares learners for success in the 21st century and beyond.
