I participated in Brackeys 2025.2 Game Jam with a handful of talented folks. I was the main game designer in the team; I prototyped the main movement mechanic and made the levels. It was a really fun project to work on.
This was my first game jam in a while and one of the things I was working on was a fishing rod as the initial idea of the game was similar to those carnival games with the fishing rods. The fishing rod didn't end up in the final version to account for visual clutter but game jams are the perfect places to make random things that don't make it and it gave me an idea for a fishing rod visualization too.
The first level I made was a shipwreck cove style, originally I was going to play around a bit with depth and have sunken objects on an orthographic camera but we ended going with a simpler camera setup. I still got to play with a bit of depth with the shipwreck itself and it was a fire first level to make the rest of the team really liked it.
The second level I made was inspired by the baby park racetrack from Mario Kart, just an oval track, it was a pretty simple level but I really liked the end result of a little oasis style island.
The last level was a cove that I wanted to make look like the jawbite of a shark, It turned out to be a pretty good level, the final touches that our 3D artist did really made it stand out. Making the levels for such a cute project really was a treat.
