25mm Practice Portraits in Miniature

6 October - 12 November 2019

These were a practice run for portraits in miniature for TRM Cuan and Signy. I learned a lot in the month and a half in which I managed to get Signy's face wrong in 3,000 different ways. I've started the next set already. Those will be slightly larger and oblong (30mm x 40mm) and got some tips from Dame Daniela for materials and techniques I can implement for improvement. They are already going more smoothly!

  • I definitely need to buy a few single hair paintbrushes if I'm going to continue doing these at this scale.
  • I would have made their faces larger, but the Holbein originals (as requested) included shoulders.
  • I just purchased a magnifier to clip on my drafting table.
  • I used a lot of Windex to clean the way-too-much-glue that I used in fear of not using enough.
