A linen partlet-like top that is worn instead of a Hemd. I still need to sew the sides, add hook and eyes, and eventually trim with black, which may not happen before 12th Night. I used a combination of Katafalk's gollar pattern, Reconstructing History's partlet pattern and Dame Drea Leed's Flemish Partlet Pattern. The idea came from Marlein - a 16th century wardrobe's "Untergollar in linen inspired by Katharina von Bora" post from 6 April 2019.
Am I convinced that these were a real thing that German women wore under their clothes? No. But Reconstructing History seems to think they were, and so does Marlein's blog.
Did it save me a ton of time, and the hardship of pleating? Technically yes
Did it take me an entire day to pattern and start sewing? Yes.
So did it save me time? Unclear.
At least I have a partlet pattern? Also, I know they were worn by Flemish women over their dresses. So maybe?
*shrug* It was an experience.
Above are two examples given of possible untergollars in use. I give the Gertner piece (right) a "maybe", and the portrait of Jorg Zörer's Wife a "probably not", as you can clearly see the sleeves of the hemd.
