Yeah, but how much money will it cost me in total?
In addition to the tuition and program fees above, students must pay for their flight, some meals, typical personal spending, travel weekends, and gifts for family back home. These costs vary based on your own frugality, but on average flight + personal spending costs are around $1800. This makes the "all-in" cost about $5622. To avoid feeling crunched, round up to think of $6,000 as your target.
What's included in the tuition and fees that I pay to Kutztown University?
Tuition for one class, the KU processing fee, all lodging**, all entrance fees and ground transportation in London, welcome and departure dinners, trips to Stonehenge and Bath and some West-End Shows. Typically students cover lunch, dinner and free-time entertainment.
**except for independent travel and lodging
Can I take more than one class?
No. The amount of time devoted to each class limits everyone to one course.
What about a pre-departure orientation?
Yes, student participants will attend a mandatory orientation session on campus in November at which we will show you images of your upcoming trip, provide you with detailed information and take care of some formalities. We strongly encourage you to invite your family and loved ones to this meeting.
How do I travel to Europe for the program?
Round trip airfare to London varies between $750 and $1300. Airfares have been low recently, but are notoriously volatile. If possible there will be a group flight option. However, students should be prepared to make their own flight arrangements within specific time constraints provided by the the program director. In Winter 2025 the round-trip group flight cost for students was around $835 each.
When is the application due?
The applications a re due ASAP and priority acceptance for Juniors and Seniors will begin in July/August. Our cap is 18 students. The program has typically been full by the beginning of October. But applications are accepted until we're full.
Are scholarships or Financial Aid available?
Yes. Please visit this page, and contact the KU financial aid office. AND, if you're an Honors Student at KU, you automatically receive a $1000 scholarship toward this program. In prior years many students have found private funding through their local philanthropic organizations (e.g. The Lions, Optimists Club, Rotary etc.)
Is it safe to travel in Europe?
Yes. As in most large cities, one should use caution and situational awareness. And the crime rates in Europe are typically much lower than in comparable-size US cities. In London we stay in a very safe neighborhood with easy to navigate public transportation.
What about Pandemics and War?
KU and the London Program will make a safety assessment as we approach departure. If there are travel restrictions for any reason, we will follow them. You will be kept aware of any changes.
Will I be able to travel on my own?
There are opportunities to travel independently. You'll have free time to travel from January 1st to 3rd and it's highly encouraged. Your professors will be able to give you advice on travel opportunities before and during the program. In fact, you can visit Ireland, Spain or I can even help you get to Germany.....
I feel like I have other questions...
Good, this is a big deal. Jump on to the London Facebook page and ask one of the 100+ alumni of the program to give you the inside scoop. Ask them how much they had to pay, how much they had to walk, where the best food is in Borough Market and if they'd do the trip again.
I'm interested, what can I do now?
