Kurt De Wit (°1973) is head of the Data Team of the Teaching and Learning Services at the university of Leuven (KU Leuven) in Belgium. In that function he carries out institutional research in the framework of the institution's policy on education, students, and diversity and inclusion. With the data team he is responsible for carrying out data analyses and university-wide student and alumni surveys, and for the dissemination of management information, on the intake of students, drop-out and retention, determinants of study success, and the evaluation of policy implementation.
Kurt's current research interests include higher education system reform, higher education governance and management, the public value of higher education, the roles of ICT for university students, and diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education. His most recent publications include papers in Higher Education, Higher Education Research & Development, Public Administration, Higher Education Policy, and Studies in Higher Education.
Kurt De Wit is editor-in-chief of the peer-reviewed journal Tertiary Education And Management, owned by EAIR and published by Springer. He is also a book reviewer for the Dutch-language journal on higher education and management, TH&MA Hoger Onderwijs. He is a board member of EAIR (the European Higher Education Society) and of DAIR (the Dutch Association for Institutional Research).
Kurt graduated as Master in Sociology at KU Leuven in 1996 and obtained his PhD in Sociology from the same university in 2007. He was a research & teaching assistant at the Centre for Sociology of Education at KU Leuven and at EduBROn at the University of Antwerp. He was active as a governing board member of the Flemish Sociological Association, among other things as organiser of Dutch-Flemish sociological conferences, and he was editor-in-chief of three Dutch-language journals: Tijdschrift voor Sociologie, Sociologie Magazine, and Delta - Tijdschrift voor Hoger Onderwijs.
