According to a report by the National Institute of Educational Evaluation (Ineval) and data from the Latin American Laboratory for Assessment of the Quality of Education (LLECE), only 36% of 10-year-old children in Ecuador demonstrate good reading comprehension. This highlights a significant challenge within the country’s education system, which has shown little progress since 2013, with the pandemic further exacerbating the situation (UNESCO, 2022).

The educational gap in Ecuador reveals a concerning reality, where access to technology significantly divides urban private schools from rural ones. According to a report by the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society, only 40% of public schools in rural areas have access to the internet, compared to 90% of private schools in urban areas (MINTEL, 2022). This disparity results in unequal opportunities for students, especially in an era where digitalization and artificial intelligence are rapidly transforming the educational and labor landscape. A study by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) indicates that students without access to digital technologies are 30% less likely to develop essential 21st-century skills (ECLAC, 2020). This gap not only reflects current inequalities but also jeopardizes the future development of the country in the digital age.

In response to this challenge, Kuna Tech embraces a transformative mission: not only to provide digital tools to schools with limited access to technology in Ecuador but also to plant the seed of innovation in every Ecuadorian child and youth, regardless of their socioeconomic background or geographic location. We aim to rewrite the story of a country traditionally known for exporting raw materials, striving to become a nation that exports knowledge. We envision a future where every young person, regardless of their origins, can be a protagonist in the technological revolution, turning challenges into opportunities for innovation.
We firmly believe that talent and creativity are equally distributed, but opportunities are not. This is why Kuna Tech is committed to democratizing access to digital knowledge, allowing students from traditionally marginalized backgrounds to develop critical skills for the future and become agents of change in their communities and the country.
Through experiences that spark curiosity and foster critical thinking, Kuna Tech is dedicated to nurturing future creators, innovators, and leaders who will shape a more advanced and equitable Ecuador. Every mind that opens to the infinite possibilities of technology is a step toward a future where human potential becomes our most valuable export. Together, we are planting the seeds of a tomorrow where innovation and equal opportunities are the hallmarks of our nation.
