Swim tests (deep end test)
Water Competency tests are required annually for anyone under the age of 18 who wishes to swim in the Deep End of the Pool. A Lifeguard will administer and closely attend to a person testing.
Water Competency Testing Sequence:
Have the person begin at a side of the pool near the deep end ladder. Have the person:
Jump or step into the water and submerge their head.
Return to the surface and swim to the rope and back to the middle of the deep end.
There, tread water (keeping mouth and nose above the surface) for one (1) minute.
Without break, swim back to the rope then to the deep end wall.
Exit from the water without using the ladder.
The person may not kick off from or grab the wall at any point during the test and pass. The attending Lifeguard will make the determination if the person has passed the test. If passing, the person’s name will be added to a list of those allowed in the Deep End that is kept in the Pool Office.
