As of May 2024, the pyramid was located outside of the Scrugham Engineering building.
A Sigma Tau Pyramid with history built-in is the accomplished feat of the fall, 1968 initiates of Alpha Epsilon chapter, University of Nevada.
The pyramid has a three-foot rail section through it reports chapter president, Wilford Jones. The rail section was rolled in England in 1874 and shipped to Nevada by way of Cape Horn. It then became part of the historic Virginia and Truckee Railroad which carried the wealth of the Comstock Load in Virginia City, Nevada, to the stamp mills on the Carson River.
Dr. Everett W. Harris, Professor Emeritus, Mechanical Engineering at University of Nevade, donated the rail section to the chapter. Dr. Harris was active in Alpha Epsilon's founding in 1952.
The pyramid is constructed of concrete. It is slightly over two feet high and three feet square at the base. The whole pyramid rests upon a concrete slab which is rimmed with angle-wire to protect the edges from damage.
President Jones says that all materials used were donated by businessmen in the Reno area. The rail section was cleaned and chromed to protect it from Nevada's severe winter weather.
The pyramid is located in front of the two main engineering buildings on campus.
President Jones reports that future projects for new initiates will include improving the appearance of the pyramid, putting a light in the ground in front the the structure to focus attention on it at night, and improve the general appearance of the surrounding area.
