The libraries of Kalinga State University (KSU) proudly introduce the KSU Library Makerspace: Expanding Access Beyond Books, now available across all four university libraries—the Bulanao Campus Library, the Dagupan Campus Library, the Rizal Campus Library, and the Laboratory High School Library.
At the heart of the new Makerspace is a strong commitment to KSU’s Green Program. More than a standard workshop, this space is designed as an eco-conscious learning environment where environmental stewardship meets creative design. In line with this Green Program, the Makerspace integrates environmental stewardship directly into its operations. Through upcycling, resource-sharing, and eco-friendly crafting, the space fosters resourcefulness and sustainable habits across the academic community.
Modern libraries are no longer just static repositories for books; they are dynamic hubs for active learning, knowledge creation, and technical innovation.
The KSU Library Makerspace is a collaborative environment where students and faculty can access tools, build practical skills, and transform creative ideas into tangible outputs.
To support diverse academic, research, and personal projects, the Makerspace is equipped with:
• Arts and crafts tools: scissors, various types of rulers, glue guns, utility knives, cutter blades, drawing paper, watercolor paper, construction paper, origami paper, popsicle sticks, foam boards, acrylic paint, oil pastels, colored pencils, and calligraphy pens.
• Specialized materials: non-woven felt fabric sheets for DIY crafts and needlework, plus a complete sewing kit with needles, thread, buttons, yarn, and measuring tape.
• Production equipment: paper cutter boards, punchers, spiral binding machines, and laminating machines to help users prepare, organize, and present their outputs.
• Learning and Educational Tools: Calculators, counting chips, algebra tiles, ETA Cuisenaire dot dice, and other basic learning resources.
With these tools, users can engage in a wide range of hands-on pursuits like model making, prototyping, and spatial design; paper crafting and bookbinding; drawing, painting, and visual arts; textile, fabric, and fashion design; and document finishing and display preparation.
By placing sustainability at the core of technical hands-on learning, the KSU University Library reinforces its mission as an innovative, eco-friendly learning commons for the entire academic community.
