How to Qualify
Students must first participate in one of the five regional fairs to qualify at the state level.
Any student can compete at ANY regional, but participants must be mindful about the varying dates and requirements at each site.
Group Projects
Individual and Team projects are accepted
No more than three(3) participants per team
Each team member must register on their own
Each team member must pay a registration fee (this covers the T-Shirt and various processing costs.)
ISEF Forms
Regional fairs should have required the same forms necessary to compete at the state level. If you did not provide your regional with the proper forms, then your project will not be considered for awards.
All students must complete forms 1, 1A and 1B. Some projects may require Prior Approval Forms 3-8.
Find the required forms here: 2022 Forms Only
Two-Day Fair
For KSSEF veterans, this format will seem very familiar! We are moving back to a two-day fair. There were advantages and disadvantages to holding the fair one vs. two days. After a few years of trying out the single-day fair, we have decided this was the best course overall.
The Judging of projects will occur Friday evening.
The Awards Ceremony will be held Saturday Morning.
You do NOT have to be present at the awards ceremony to receive your award. A teacher, parent, teammate, or classmate may pick up your award for you. Any awards not claimed will be sent with your Regional Director for dispersal.
My regional fair required a different structure than what is outlined on the KSSEF website/ registration. Which do I need to follow?
KSSEF is International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) affiliated. This means that we follow their guidelines in our fair and through our process.
Even if your regional fair had slightly different requirements, you still need to make sure you have everything you need to compete at the State Level.
This means minor adjustments to your project are OK and recommended! Take some of the feedback you received at the regional level to fine-tune your projects. Just make sure you are using the SAME data/ results from your qualifying project.
