Library Rules & Regulations
* Students shall pay a deposit of Rs. 500/- (Five hundred) (refundable amount) for issue of two borrowers tickets and Rs. 50/-(Fifty) (non-refundable) fees for ID card.
* Two books to students for two weeks, 3 books to project fellows for 30 days, and 05 books to faculty members for two months be issued. They shall return the book on or before the last date stamped on the date-slip of each document. Sending reminders to defaulters is not obligatory on the part of the Library.
* All persons borrowing Library materials, or ordering materials for use within the Library, shall produce evidence of identity at the time of borrowing or ordering if requested to do so.
* The borrower should check the fitness of the document before getting it issued. Any discrepancy should be brought to the notice of the person at the Circulation Counter who will put necessary remarks on the document before issuing. The borrower will be held responsible for any defect/damage found at the time of return of the document, if not recorded on it earlier, and will be liable to pay the penalty.
* Any book forming a part of the “Text book Collection”, “Reference Collection”, or any book valuable for its rarity or its illustration shall not be borrowed from the Library by any readers, except with the permission of the chairman of the Library Committee/Librarian.
* Any document/book issued may be recalled by the Library/Librarian before the due date of return without assigning any reason and the borrower shall abide by the decision.
* Books will not be renewed for not more than two times, if there is demand from other users of the Library.
* Reference books, Journals, Magazines/Newspapers, CD-ROM databases and other documents declared “For Reference” by the Librarian will not be issued. However the textbooks can be issued overnight and late fee will be charged @ 5/- (Five) per book per day.
* A borrower is responsible for the safe custody and return of the documents borrowed from the Library.
* The student’s borrower’s ticket will be tenable for a period of one year only and shall not be transferable but renewable, if necessary.
* In case of loss of borrower’s ticket a duplicate ticket will be issued to the borrower on furnishing an affidavit made before the Librarian, explaining the circumstances in which the ticket was lost. The charges for such duplicate borrower ticket will be Rs. 25/- for issue of duplicate borrower’s card.
* Late fee of Rs 1/- (One) per day/book would be charged from all the borrowers (except Faculty members) who retain book(s) beyond the due date.
* The reader who loses the book must report to the University Library immediately, and he/she will be given one month time for finding and return of the book/s.
* In case he/she fails to return the book/s within one month from the date of reporting, he/she shall replace the same or revised edition of the book within a month.
* In case he/she cannot replace the book, then borrower will have to pay FIVE TIMES the cost of the book along with late fee. Replacements by photocopied version will not be accepted.
* In case of books running in series or set, patrons shall make good the loss of the single volume lost, if it is available in the market, OR pay the cost of the entire series or set in case the single volume is not available for sale and the entire set will be accepted as a substitute.
* The Library will remain open from 9-00 a.m. to 8-00 p.m. (Circulation Timings 9-30 a.m. to 6-00 p.m.) on all working days except during vacation and 2nd Saturday. On Sundays and General Holidays library will remain closed. However, Library remains open on Sundays during examination time.
* The following persons are entitled to make use of the books etc, within the library premises:
* Officers and members of the authorities of the University, the committees and various bodies appointed by the university authorities,
* Faculty of the University,
* Employees of the University,
* Post Graduates of this or any other statutory university and recommended by the Dean or Head of the University Departments,
* Students of the University pursuing various courses,
* Other persons with the special permission of the Chairman of the Library Committee, Registrar or the Librarian.
* Every person taking a book out of the Library and every reader using a book within the Library shall be responsible for its safe custody and return, undamaged in any manner.
* In the event of any issued book, being lost or damaged (including pencil or ink marking) the borrower shall replace the book or pay the compensation as may be fixed by the Library Committee.
* A newly procured book cannot be taken out of the Library during the first week.
* Every periodical publication shall be displayed till the receipt of the next number and shall not normally be taken out of the Library.
* No tracing, copying or mechanical reproduction of any book, maps or manuscript shall be done without the permission of the Librarian.
* A person desirous of using the Library shall enter his/her name, Department and time of entry legibly and put signature in the register kept at the appropriate section’s entrance for the purpose.
* Bring only note-book or paper inside the Library.
* Not to disturb the order of the books on the shelves.
* Leave books on the reading table after use.
* Not to sprinkle ink on the floors of the Library.
* Mobile Phone is prohibited in the library premises.
* Silence shall be maintained in the Library.
* Strict decorum and discipline must be maintained in the Library. Users must ensure that rights of other users of the Library are not breached in anyway by their own acts of commission or demission.
* Smoking, eating, sleeping and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the Library.
* Readers must present their Reader’s Card or University ID Card at the time of check in and checkout of Library books, and inspection if requested by a member of the Library staff in the course of their duties.
* A non-member can use the Library materials in the Library premises with the prior permission of the University Librarian.
* Readers must not bring bags, sticks, umbrellas, briefcases, boxes and other such articles into the Library. They may be deposited at the Library baggage counter before entering Library. The users are advised not to leave expensive items in the bags or at the baggage counter.
* Documents taken out of the shelves must be left on the table. Replacing the documents on shelves by users is not encouraged as the documents may get misplaced.
* The Library reserves the right to inspect anything brought into the Library, such as, laptops; mobile devices, bags, files, folders, coats or any other items allowed into the Library shall be subject to examination on exit.
* Library staffs are empowered to stop any activity in the Library which they consider prejudicial to the safety, well-being, or security of readers or Library staff or to the preservation of the collections.
* Pulling a book from the shelf by holding the spine will damage its binding. If the shelf is packed push further with your fingers the books adjacent to the one you need. It will be easy for you to pick up the books you want without damaging its binding.
* In case you have to leave your table for referring to a dictionary or any other reference work while reading, please do not leave the book open on the table or do not keep the book open with its face down or insert your notebook in-between the pages and close the book temporarily. All these tend to damage binding of books and spell a disaster to it. Request for book-marks from the assistant-in-charge and close book with the book mark inside.
* Corporate Membership:
* Industrial Organization/Business firms/Corporate bodies may become members of the library by paying annual fee of Rs. 10,000/- (Ten thousand) and such members are eligible to use library resources/facilities within Library premises. If the corporate member desires to barrow books they are allowed to borrow up to two books at a time by depositing Rs. 1000/- (One thousand)per book for a period of only two weeks.
* Institutional Membership:
* Educational institutions including affiliated colleges may become member by paying an annual fee of Rs.1000/- (One thousand) and such members may be allowed to borrow two books for a period of only two weeks.
* The amount deposited by the borrower for the privilege of borrowing books from the Library should be claimed by the borrower within one year from the date of his/her leaving the university. Any claim made there-after will not be considered. The deposit will be refunded to the concerned borrower on request in writing subject to the conditions that:
* The borrower has returned in good condition the books standing in his/her name.
* He/she has paid in full fine etc, if any imposed for non-return of books within the stipulated period; and
* He/she returns the original receipt issued by the Library at the time of keeping the deposit.
* Books and the other reading materials not available in the Library may be borrowed on loan basis from other Libraries, on request by the faculty members of University.
* Use of Laptop may be allowed in the Library.
* The students shall return books due, soon after the examinations are over. Names of the students from whom books are due will be reported to the Registrar to withhold the results.
* In the event of any doubt or dispute arising in the interpretation of these rules, the decision of the Library Committee Chairman is final.
