The Spirit of Free-moN
The Spirit of Free-moN
From the Free-moN Website with comments from Louisville Free-moN
The following list summarizes the spirit and benefits of free-moN over existing modular N scale standards:
Designed to satisfy the needs of the advanced modeler over the needs of the beginner and general public. Can you produce an exceptional N Scale product? Is your work on the same level as what you see on a Louisville Free-moN Module? We pride ourselves on the high standards we exhibit through our module building, our rolling stock, and our locomotives. If you are a beginner or if your skills are not yet on par with what you see with us, we can guide you towards other aspects of N Scale railroading that will fuel your passion for small trains. We will help mentor you and help you gain skills and abilities. You can even run a train with us (in a prototypical fashion, of course!) at a show. We don't want to keep you out of N Scale, but you must understand that Louisville Free-moN is at the pinnacle of model railroading. After all, our motto is "Better Modeling Through Peer Pressure!" Please don't see us as snobs, we simply have very high standards for ourselves.
Incorporates a comfortable working and viewing height for adults of 50" from the floor.
Specifies Code 55 rail for the main with a minimum 22" radius and #6 turnouts. You may not use Peco, Kato, or Code 80 rail
Encourages layouts that are optimized for prototypical look and operations. No aliens, no Batman, no Godzillas. We expect to see Central Kentucky/Southern Indiana in the late summer.
Maximizes flexibility for module design and shape by specifying only the end-plate interface and mainline track standards. You can build any length or width you like, and the shape doesn't have to be a rectangle.
Simple end-plate specification allows for easy integration into home layouts. Free-moN modules are a great way to construct a home layout.
Encourages a loose association among individuals free of club or group requirements, membership, dues, etc. We operate by consensus and peer pressure.
Standardized scenery at the end-plates (to merge visually with adjacent modules).
DCC/LocoNet/Digitrax control throughout for maximum flexibility.
Rolling stock that meets or exceeds NMRA standards for reliability. No "pizza cutter" wheels or Rapido couplers.
These standards allow for module construction that is free form between the end-plates resulting in flexible and adaptable layout configurations to fit any available space.
