Music

I'm a big fan of classical music, and am very involved in a number of musical projects. I play oboe and English horn, and although the double reed life is sometimes frustrating, I love it! Most recently I've been taking some stabs at conducting.

PLAYING

I've played oboe and English horn for the MIT Symphony Orchestra every semester I've been at MIT. You can watch some past performances here.

While visiting Northwestern in Fall 2018, I joined the Northwestern Philharmonia, and played Oboe I for Mendelssohn's 5th Symphony.

I played in the PATHOS Ensemble, a chamber ensemble which existed from Spring 2016 through Spring 2017. Some past performances include Schoenberg Kammersymphonie No 1(Spring 2016) and Beethoven Symphony No 3 (Fall 2016).

From Fall 2016 to Spring 2018, I participated in MIT's Chamber Music Society. Most recently, in Spring 2018, I performed Nielsen's Wind Quintet.

Over the 2017-18 school year, I was an Emerson Scholar, through which I have been taking oboe lessons with Peggy Pearson.

CONDUCTING

In Spring 2017, I began a program, now called the 50 Minute Ensemble, to offer students a chance to get practice conducting small ensembles. We gather some musicians (mostly from MIT) twice a week to conduct under students' batons. The current format gives each student conductor four consecutive 50-minute rehearsals to prepare whatever piece they choose. Through this program, I have led rehearsals of Mozart Symphony No 24, excerpts from Elgar's Enigma Variations, Dvorak Symphony 7 Movement 2, Dvorak Symphony No 9 Movement 1, and Beethoven's Egmont Overture.

In February 2018, I co-conducted the IAP (Independent Activities Period) Orchestra for my first official concert, leading Schubert's Unifinished Symphony.

In February 2019, I again co-conducted the IAP Orchestra, leading Dvorak's New World Symphony. I created a website for the IAP orchestra leading up to the concert.
