Walking into a new counselor's office the first time can be scary, especially when you know that you will be doing hard work. How much paperwork will there be? What kinds of questions do I have to answer? What will the counselor be like? How long will I have to be there? What if I don't want to answer something too personal? The same thing may be true even if you are doing telehealth from the comfort of your own home.
Once you make your first appointment, I will send you the intake paperwork. This will include almost everything you'll need to fill before our first session. One of the forms will ask you what you want to work on and how it affects your life currently. This will save us time and allow us to move quickly into healing. There may be several things you want to work on. I will look over this before our session to start to formulate a plan.
The initial half hour of your first session will give us a chance to determine if we are a good fit and give us an idea of exactly what we are working on and how long treatment will take. There may be several traumas that you'd like to process through that might take more than one session. I will give you a good faith estimate before we begin. I will show you how EMDR and Brainspotting work and we will decide as we go along which one works better for you. WE will collaborate on a treatment plan and set our goals.
