Artist Statement
The inspiration behind my work is my own lived experiences. I think there is something so beautiful about the fact that the art I create can only come from me because I am influenced and impacted by my unique occurrences, and same goes for others.
Growing up as a Lithuanian living in America I always struggled to fit in with others. No matter how hard I tried to fit into those boxes, I was isolated. I stayed introverted and observed others constantly. It was foreign to me in which people my age behaved because of cultural differences, but also spiritually. It felt as though my brain was vibrating on a different frequency as I began to understand aspects of life at a very young age, experiencing the good and the bad. My mother always told me I was an old soul, this encouraged me to believe in the higher powers of the universe, and broadened my perspective. My love for my heritage and understanding of its importance, also grew even larger. It was only when I began to understand how wonderful it is to have differences, that I began to accept myself and allowed myself to become a true individual.
My unusual awareness of others also lent me an empathetic existence. It can be beautiful but it also means I experience all emotions very deeply. The weight of my Lithuanian lineage follows me as I navigate the other complexities of life. My art is my way of processing my unique experiences and emotions.
