There are many strategies to encourage a safe, healthy, and happy learning environment. I use an abundance of verbal encouragement and recognition for students who are making good choices. When necessary, students receive a verbal warning, a short time out, and if necessary, a longer time out or loss of privilege. Anything beyond this will most likely include a call or email to parents. I believe that clear, consistent expectations and boundaries along with positive reinforcement are the keys to a successful learning environment.
In Kindergarten the following 3 things are our main guidelines: 1) Be a Friend. 2) Do the job. 3) Use self-control and be safe.
1. Follow directions quickly.
2. Raise your hand for permission to speak.
3. Make smart choices.
4. Keep your dear learning community happy.
In addition, I will help your child to work on both academic and behavioral goals. As they work towards their goal, they become a Super Improver. The idea of the Super Improver is that children play a role in goal setting and they become self-motivated to reach for their goal every day. As your child achieves their goals, they level up on the Super Improver Wall.
