Welcome to my portfolio.

I’m Kodi Rasmussen, an award-winning composer, arranger, and orchestrator based in Wellington, New Zealand. My work spans orchestral, brass band, and film scoring, with performances by The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Wellington Brass Band, and The New Zealand String Quartet.

A graduate of the New Zealand School of Music - Te Kōkī, I specialise in creating expressive, narrative-driven music. Whether composing for concert halls, media, or bespoke projects, I strive to craft music that resonates with performers and audiences alike.

City to Conservatory

Original symphonic work by Kodi Rasmussen (2024)

City to Conservatory is an orchestral response to the 2023 university funding cuts to music programs, reflecting the challenges faced by students and educators.

The piece traces a music student’s journey, beginning with the chaotic energy of urban life, shifting to semi-aleatoric practice room explorations, and culminating in Āio Mauritau Āio, a waiata by Dr. Te Manaaroha Rollo that symbolizes unity and artistic resilience.

Balancing external noise with internal discipline, the composition captures the pursuit of musical identity in a changing educational landscape.

Too Bald Clowns

My debut TV project for New Zealand animation studio Tawai Team.

Too Bald Clowns is a TV series blending absurd comedy with heartfelt storytelling. Featuring a quirky trio navigating bizarre misadventures, the show’s playful yet cinematic score enhances its offbeat humour and emotional depth.

Hairy Maclary's Greatest Hits

Orchestration of music set to Lynley Dodd's Hairy Maclairy series (2023)

A collaborative project with composer Jan Bolton and orchestrators Ewan Clarke, and Thomas Goss brought Lynley Dodd's Hairy Maclairy books to life!

Commissioned by the Opus Orchestra, eight of Dodd's books received a colourful orchestral accompaniment to be performed in concert with narration and singing.

I orchestrated three of these works and typeset all of them.
