Alright! You want to upgrade to something better!! Let's do it!
Steps
Step 1: Measure wingspan. Stretch your arms out to the side WIDE and measure middle finger tip to middle finger tip.
Step 2: Get your draw length. Divide wingspan by 2.5
Step 3: Measure your bow weight
Step 4: Check the Easton Chart below
Addy Example
Step 1: Addy is 62" (I rounded to the closes whole number)
Step 2: 62 / 2.5 = 24.8 (I'll round to 25)
Step 3: I pull 42lbs
Step 4: Check the Easton Chart below
Steps Part II
Step 5: Poundages in red are compound. The far right side is recurve. Read the corret side!! Use the chart like a plot graph to find the box that your poundage and draw length match under.
Step 6: Check the special notes from easton and double check you are still in the same box. (You may not know the answers to point grain yet).
Addy Example Part II
Step 5: Reading the "Recurve Bow" side I am the 6th row down. Under the 25" column I am 800-700 spine.
Step 6: I am shooting 110 so I need to go up to from 42 to 45lbs.
BUT My Bamboo wood core Hoyt Velos limbs so now I'll subtract 5, so 45-5 = 40. I'll check the chart and i'm still within 40-43lbs!
If I based this off of my Carbon foam core Hoyt Axia limbs I would be at 45lbs. I'd need to 720-625 spine.
SPECIAL NOTES FROM EASTON
If you are shooting LESS than 100 grain points: Subtract 3lbs to your bow poundage
If you are shooting MORE than 100 grain points: Add 3lbs to your bow poundage
If you are shooting Wood/Glass style limbs: Subtract 5lbs from your bow poundage
Steps Part III
Step 7: Let's look at the OCD arrow options below. At this point ANY of these options will be good for you. .005 is still a REALLY GOOD arrow. Choose based on price and whats in stock. You are welcome to check reviews.
Addy Example Part III
Step 7: My only option are X-10s because no one in the top rankings shoots anything but.
Steps Part IV
Step 8: POINTS
More point weight provides: better stability in the wind, will make an arrow stiffer if needed when tuning,
I recommend less point weight if you are trying to make distance. Heavier weight will pull your arrow down.
If you are not trying to make distance 100-120 break-off points work best. Then we can tune.
Recommended points are often located when you scroll down the page under "Customers Also Bought"
Step 9: Nocks
You you group in the yellow and break nocks often purchase pin inserts and pin nocks
I almost always recommend small groove (.088) nock size. This also depends on the number of strands in your string. Most if not all of you should be using small grove. 18 strands or less will be small groove.
Addy Example Part IV
Step 8: POINTS
Easton sells Steel break-off 120 points. I used those for a long time.
Now I use tungston break-off points from ShoreShot Archery. I buy 120s and cut off a piece to make it 110.
Step 9: Nocks
You bet I break nocks!! Even at 70m!! I purchase the pins specifically made for X10s. I use Beiter #1 pin nocks.
Beiter is always best in my bias opinion!!
"Pin"
Inserts for top of arrow to prevent your arrow from getting damaged when you break a nock
"Pin Nocks"
Can only use these if you buy pins
Regular "Nocks"
These are usually arrow specific for the type of arrow you choose.
These just slide into the back of your arrow without glue!
Steps Part V
Step 10: Fletching
Spin wings if you want to be fancy and constantly have to mess with them and replace and fix. Only get this if you are an adult or a teen who is dedicated to perfection.
Plastic Hard Fletching These are good for intermediate shooters and kids who shouldn't be messing with their fletching. You can only get these if you are using a metal arrow rest with a plunger. Get these in 1.75" or 2"
Feather Fletching These are great options for those with the plastic arrow rest or metal arrow rests. If you are concerned about arrow clearence then go with these in 2"
Addy Example Part V
Step 10: Fletching
I use spin wings
Range O' Matic Brand in 1 3/4"
Other Brands: KSL - Nick uses these
Spider Vanes - They have shiny/ metallic ones!!
