The career I wanted to pursue is mechanical engineering. My uncles wanted me to follow their paths of going to West Point and then the military. So instead I compromised with them and decided that I would follow a path of mechanical engineering and to hopefully one work at lock heed martin. I’ve always enjoyed learning and figuring out complex devices and systems, and this lead me to wanting to be a mechanical engineer. I decided this in early 2025 when I toured the tech center and got to see all of the projects engineer students get to do and all of the cool skills they get to learn.
I have taken a few classes that will help me in achieving my career choice, some of these classes are honors pre-calculus, AP physics, and AP computer science and principles. These will hopefully give me more understanding of how things work in the real world, such as the flight path of protective systems. I’ve also joined the engineering program at forest tech to learn more about all types of engineering and the topics in them. I’ve learned basic computer science skills such as coding and pre-calculus and algebra math skills.
I have participated in extracurricular activities such as high school lacrosse and football. I've learned lessons like responsibility, team work, leadership, determination, and toughness. I have also participated in activities outside of school that will help me in my career choice such as being employed. My jobs have taught me skills like time management, work effort, and problem solving skills that I can put to use in my future career.
Upon graduation from high school my immediate plans are dependent on if I am able to get an athletic scholarship. If I'm able to, I want to attend college for 4 years majoring in mechanical engineering. If I'm not so fortunate I will attend a community college for 2 years (most likely csm) and then transfer to college to finish out my degree. This is because I feel like having a college degree puts me in a better position to work at my desired company, and for that matter any company.
After I achieve my career goal I will affect my community by being an active member of it and participate in community activities as well as helping to solve community issues. I will also change the society I live in by working for a military contractor, helping create military technologies. I will hopefully have the impact of making the US and other countries safer when I attain my dream of working for Lockheed Martin. I think this impact is positive but can also be negative. If I help create military technologies that make countries and their people safer this also indirectly helps create weapons.
