Comptroller, Bill Schemensky, standing proudly before the assembly, awarded Sir Les a medal—a symbol of gratitude for his dedication, leadership, and tireless commitment to fraternity and faith..

Behind them, Admiral Sir Fred Hall looked on, a steadfast presence whose wisdom and guidance enriched the Assembly throughout the past year. His invaluable knowledge provided direction, strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and deepening the Assembly’s sense of purpose.

Together, these distinguished men reflect the spirit of service and unity that defines Assembly 2122, ensuring its legacy continues strong into the future.

In the warmth of a summer evening inside the St Paul Room of Our Mother of Confidence, the Sir Knights of Bishop Buddy Assembly 2122 gathered for their annual reflection and renewal—a tradition steeped in reverence and fellowship. The room hummed with quiet pride as accomplishments from the past year were revisited, and the guiding spirit of the Assembly was celebrated.

Among the highlights came a moment that silenced the rustle of programs and softened the shuffle of chairs.

Trustee Fred Hall, known for his steadfast leadership and deep respect for tradition, stepped to the front with a small gift in hand: a crisp, navy-blue baseball cap stitched boldly with the words “Past Faithful Navigator.”

Turning to Admiral Les Williamson, Fred offered a warm smile and extended the cap, not just as fabric and thread, but as a symbol of deep gratitude. Les, who had served the Assembly with quiet dignity and tireless resolve, accepted the token with a nod that spoke volumes.

“For your unwavering dedication to this Assembly over the past year,” Fred said, voice steady, “we honor your service—not just in title, but in spirit. May this cap remind you that leadership leaves a legacy long after a term ends.”

A ripple of applause filled the room as the Knights stood in unity, honoring a man whose contributions had shaped their journey together.

And so, beneath banners of blue and gold, among swords raised in salute and hearts bound by duty, the Assembly pressed forward—with memory, meaning, and the quiet strength of those who serve with honor.

Fr Jim Boyd, who led many of our Bishop Buddy Assembly opening ceremonies and invoked his blessings is remembered. The following is photos and life of Fr Jim Boyd.

A Life of Grace and Tireless Service: Remembering Father James A. Boyd

Father James A. Boyd, beloved Catholic priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn, passed into eternal rest on January 20, 2025, at the age of 88, following a valiant fight against cancer. His final days were spent in La Jolla’s V.A. hospital—surrounded by the grace and dignity that marked over six decades of priestly ministry.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Father Jim was formed by Catholic education and ordained at St. Bernard’s Seminary in 1963. His thirst for spiritual and pastoral wisdom led him to earn both a Master of Divinity and a master’s degree in pastoral counseling. These credentials became tools for an expansive mission that stretched far beyond parish walls.

Father Jim’s early service as an associate pastor in Brooklyn laid the foundation for a global calling. In 1970, he joined the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps, embarking on a 25-year career ministering to service members in the Philippines, California, Spain, and Hawaii. A scholar at heart, he paused to study theology at the North American College before concluding his distinguished naval service at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego, where he retired in 1996.

Retirement, however, was merely the beginning of another chapter. In San Diego, Father Jim became a dynamic force in parish life and outreach ministries. He was a cornerstone of Catholic marriage support, offering hope and healing through programs like Engaged Encounter, Marriage Encounter, and Retrouvaille. He proudly earned the nickname “Divorce Buster,” touching the lives of countless couples and restoring unity where it once seemed lost.

Starting in 2002, Father Boyd served as chaplain at the Stella Maris Seafarer’s Center, where he ministered to sailors aboard Dole ships—the “pineapple and banana boats.” Whether saying Mass, building an entertainment center, or hosting festive Christmas parties, Father Jim brought joy and sanctuary to hundreds who found themselves far from home.

Energetic and enthusiastic well into his eighties, he was known as the “Energizer Bunny” by friends and fellow clergy. He swam, walked, skied, and kayaked with an unrelenting spirit. He read voraciously, engaged with the world, and never ceased his advocacy for the unborn or his pastoral care for those in crisis. Bilingual in Spanish, Father Jim loved ministering within Latino communities and actively supported groups like Rachel’s Hope, the Cursillo movement, Quest retreats, and the Knights of Columbus.

Even after suffering a stroke in March 2024, Father Jim greeted visitors at Nazareth House with his signature smile—a living testament to his endurance and faith.

He is survived by his loving family: nephews Ron Sarquiz, Richard Sarquiz, and Robert Boyd, and niece Pam Gazani. He now joins his parents and siblings Robert, Richard, and Paulina in eternal peace.

Father James Boyd’s legacy is etched in lives healed, souls uplifted, and communities fortified by his presence. May his memory inspire continued acts of love and faith.

n a spirit of reverence and unity, the PSA Memorial Service stood as a testament to compassion and community. It was made possible through the generous financial support of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 2122, whose commitment to honoring the fallen ensured that this sacred gathering could take place. Their contribution was publicly acknowledged at the conclusion of the ceremony, a gesture of gratitude that echoed the solemnity of the day.

As the names of those lost in the tragic crash were read aloud, the room fell into a hushed stillness. With each name, a single rose was placed into a shared vase—a quiet, tender act of remembrance. The ritual unfolded slowly, deliberately, allowing each soul to be honored with dignity and love. The silence between each offering spoke volumes, as hearts gathered in collective mourning and prayer.

It was a deeply moving event—one that transcended words and touched the core of all present. In the midst of sorrow, there was grace. In the face of loss, there was love.

May Mary, the Mother of Sorrows, cradle the grieving in her gentle embrace. And may Jesus, the Prince of Peace, bless them with healing, hope, and everlasting light.

Installation of Assembly Officers — September 11, 2025

On this solemn and symbolic day, Faithful Sir District Marshal Charles Farnsworth presided over the Installation of Assembly Officers, a ceremony steeped in tradition and purpose. Held on September 11, a date etched in the American conscience, the occasion served not only as a formal recognition of leadership but as a reaffirmation of the Knights of Columbus’ enduring commitment to charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.

From Sir Charles Farnsworth’s vantage, the newly installed officers stood with quiet strength and noble bearing:

A special note of gratitude is extended to Faithful Sir John Ohle, whose thoughtful contribution of the ceremonial photograph ensures this moment will be remembered and shared with reverence.

In a heartfelt gesture of gratitude and brotherhood, the Knights of Columbus Assembly 2122 proudly presented Julio Deguzman with the title of Honorary Faithful Navigator, accompanied by a commemorative certificate and shirt. Though illness prevented Julio from completing his elected term as Faithful Navigator, his dedication, leadership, and unwavering spirit left a lasting mark on the Assembly.

This honorary recognition stands as a testament to Julio’s commitment to the values of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. His presence has been deeply missed, and the Assembly continues to lift him in prayer, asking for God’s healing grace during this time of recovery.
