VI Lab pioneers a research topic according to the need of the hour to improve the quality of streaming/storage/sharing/service closely related to our live through systematic and practical research and development with the latest artificial intelligence techniques.
Sightseeing--important one in five sense of human--is being recognized not only for people but also for autonomous vehicle, drone, and robots. Thus, this is an open research topic for many people those who concentrate on investigating on what is accurate and efficient information. Accordingly, our lab analyzes and understands video characteristics and conducts research on essential elements of which people think critically and of which machine needs to process effectively. Based on such analysis, we research and develop efficient core technologies through scientific/engineered approach and share them with and contribute on international standardization parties.
Video is of huge data, which needs to be compressed efficiently. For that needs, MPEG standardization group under ISO/IEC and VCEG standardization group under ITU-T hold every meeting to develop and standardize the next-generation video coding standard. The next figure shows a plenary meeting of 122th MPEG meeting(link: MPEG 122) at San Diego, US. From South Korea, 126 people joined this meeting, including Samsung, LG, ETRI, Yonsei University, Hanyang Univeristy. In addition, many popular institutes related to media/smart phone/chips joined this meeting, including Qualcomm (US), Intel (US), Netflix (US), Sony Electronics (US), Sharp Corporation (Japan), Ericsson (Sweden), EPFL (Switzerland), Peking University (China). Totally, 500 to 600 people join every MPEG meeting, which shows that this can contribute on high impact on industry.
This VI Lab regularly joins this meeting so that we are enable to analyze the latest trend of industry/academy and furthermore make an effort to standardize our techniques by actively participating the meeting. Thus, we do develop our communication skills necessary to the meeting as well as make better technologies and understand various cultures and respect people from different countries.
