The DNAR (Do Not Attempt Resuscitation) is given by a licensed physician or alternative authority as per local regulation, and it must be signed and dated to be valid. It allows you to choose whether you want to get CPR in an emergency. Following a conversation with the attending physician, the order is prepared to make it clearer about what it means and to improve communication between patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
The attending physician enters the order in the patient's chart as a means of communication to make sure that the various members of the healthcare team working different shifts are aware of what to do if the patient's heart or lungs stop beating or breathing.
When DNR is created, the doctor can tell you how to get a wallet card, bracelet, or other DNR documents to have at home or in non-hospital settings. You can also make wishes in an advance directive.
