While we intend our wares to be mainly decorative, many of our trays are food safe, and are a great way to show off your favorite snacks or charcuterie!
Some woods are sturdier than others, so it depends on what type of wood your tray is made of.
Pine is a light and porous wood. If oiled after use, pine trays can be used to serve dry foods such as cheeses, nuts, and sandwiches. Avoid exposing pine to wetter foods like soups, pot roasts, and juicy meats. Some fruits and veggies, like blackberries and beets, can also stain lighter woods.
Ash & Walnut are dense and durable woods. If oiled regularly, these trays can be used for all the foods listed above as well as wetter foods.
No! Putting your tray in the microwave or dishwasher will damage it. Wooden trays are hand-wash only.
To preserve your wood tray we recommend re-applying oil after every use, where it is exposed to moisture from food and/or washing. Hand wash your wooden tray with mild dish soap (if necessary) and warm water. Towel and air dry. Once the wood if fully dried, apply a food-grade mineral oil to your tray with a soft cloth or paper towel. Let the oil soak in for at least an hour or overnight, then wipe off the excess. We recommend using the mineral oil from the link on the right.
