In this event, students will be asked to identify insects and selected immature insects by indicated taxonomy order and family, answer questions about insects, and use or construct a dichotomous key. All insects will be representatives of insects found in North America, north of Mexico.

Animal Classification
The main levels of animal classification, arranged from most general to most specific, are Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species. This hierarchical system, based on the Linnean system, allows scientists to group and categorize organisms based on their shared evolutionary relationships and characteristics.
Here's a breakdown of each level: you need to cover the yellow areas Check the list for groups
Domain: The broadest category, encompassing all living things.
Kingdom: A broad category within a domain, such as the Animal Kingdom (Animalia).
Phylum: A major division within a kingdom, based on fundamental characteristics like body plan and the presence or absence of a notochord.
Class: A group within a phylum, further classifying animals by more specific traits.
Order: A subdivision of a class, containing families of related organisms.
Family: A group of related genera that share many characteristics, like the Canidae family (dogs, foxes, and jackals).
Genus: A category that groups closely related species.
Species: The most specific level, consisting of organisms that are very similar and can produce fertile offspring.
