Educational Philosophy: Play Based Learning
My philosophy in education is that I believe that young children best learn through play. There has been a lot of research done and proven that preschool children are more engaged with hands on activities and through interactions they intend to learn more. Play based learning is self-directed play activities that help children build academic and social skills.
Frederik Froebel once said, “play is the highest expression of human development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child’s soul”. This is the greatest quote of all times; I believe that children really do best to learn through free play, and it allows them to have a free choice of expression and ability to show the interest in what they are interested in. During this time teachers and care providers would be able to provide quality learning and interaction with the children. His philosophy on play-based learning is creativity, social participation, and motor expression. I think he is the reason why today's education beliefs in play-based learning. Children can demonstrate their best learning through play, and free interaction. Children are able to demonstrate their creativity and building skills through free learning. Play based learning helps a child develop holistically through social – emotional, developing confidence, motivation, and practicing cognitive skills. In academic learning students are able to be more focused on teaching young children’s cognitive skills and knowledge through structure and routine.
