I published this article in a BookSource monthly newsletter. It is titled, "Invitations to Learn" and refers to the practice of creating an engaging set of materials related to a particular topic that will be studied in the classroom. Typically, this strategy of encouraging engagement or motivation for a topic is done in a preschool setting. In this article, I note how how students at the elementary level can also benefit from experiences such as this to build momentum for a study, and ensure or support improved student attention, focus, and engagement.
