I am a doctoral candidate pursuing a program in Transformative Learning through Webster University. My research centers around teacher burnout; understanding the phenomenon through those who have or are living with it. I began my career in education in 1996 as an elementary teacher and held other roles that included reading specialist/literacy coach and principal. During my time in these roles, I worked with practicing teachers to support their professional growth and fine tune their strengths and talents. Teachers are passionate about their work, continuously grow and develop to better serve their students, and make great effort to build relationships with parents and the larger community when they feel their best. Unfortunately, I have witnessed and supported teachers who exhibited key factors of burnout; exhaustion, lack of self-efficacy, and depersonalization.
