The Klebsiella Virtual Seminar Series was founded during the 2020 pandemic as an event to unify the Klebsiella community by sharing research. The series is now an annual, international virtual gathering that features the science of those studying Klebsiella. The current organizers of #KlebClub are Caitlyn Holmes, Wen Wen Low, Laura Mike, Olaya Rendueles, Tom Stanton, Juan Valencia, and Jay Vornhagen. Klebsiella are a group of gram-negative, rod-shaped and facultatively anaerobic bacteria from the Enterobacteriaceae family. In recent years, Klebsiella pneumoniae/the Klebsiella pneumoniae species complex has been listed as one of the ESKAPE pathogens (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus; Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter) which are priority pathogens that pose a significant threat to human health due to a rise in antimicrobial resistance and ability to cause disease.
