Kitchen Compass Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 7, 2026
Last Updated: August 7, 2026
Kitchen Compass is operated by developer/operator of Kitchen Compass (“Kitchen Compass,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
This Privacy Policy explains what information Kitchen Compass collects, how we use, store, protect, and share that information, and the choices and rights available to users of the Kitchen Compass application.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Account Information
When you create or use a Kitchen Compass account, we may collect account information such as your name, email address, and account identifier. Authentication, registration, and account management are provided through our platform provider.
Location Information
Kitchen Compass may collect an entered ZIP code to help locate nearby grocery stores and provide location-relevant app functionality.
If you choose the optional “Use my current location” feature, your device provides precise latitude and longitude coordinates for the limited purpose of determining your ZIP code. Those precise coordinates are transmitted transiently to OpenStreetMap Nominatim for reverse geocoding. Kitchen Compass does not store those precise coordinates or link them to your Kitchen Compass account.
The resulting ZIP code may be stored with your Kitchen Compass Session, Recipe, or ShoppingList records.
App Content and Preferences
We may collect information you provide or create while using Kitchen Compass, including:
• Selected grocery store
• Budget
• Recipe preferences
• Selected protein category
• Excluded ingredients
• Recipe or meal search queries
• Saved recipes
• Shopping lists
• Pantry items
• Other information you provide when using recipe, meal-planning, grocery, and shopping-list features
Some preferences may also be stored locally on your device to support app functionality.
Diagnostics
Kitchen Compass collects limited, privacy-safe diagnostic information to help maintain application stability.
This may include high-level crash or frontend-error information such as error type, a safe error code, general route group, online status, occurrence time, and whether an error is recoverable.
Our diagnostic reporting is designed to exclude personally identifiable information, raw error messages, stack traces, authentication tokens, ZIP codes, recipe text, ingredient names, and other free-text user content.
Kitchen Compass does not use diagnostic information for advertising or cross-app or cross-site tracking.
2. HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We use information collected through Kitchen Compass to:
• Create and manage user accounts.
• Provide and maintain Kitchen Compass functionality.
• Generate and store recipes, meal information, and shopping lists.
• Remember saved recipes, pantry items, preferences, and other user-selected information.
• Locate nearby grocery stores.
• Personalize recipe and grocery-related results using information you provide, such as your budget, selected store, category, preferences, and excluded ingredients.
• Generate recipes using the recipe-generation inputs you provide.
• Improve application reliability and recover from application errors.
• Protect the operation and security of Kitchen Compass.
• Respond to support, privacy, access, or deletion requests.
Recipe-generation inputs may include your free-text recipe search query, selected protein category, excluded-ingredients list, selected store name, chain tier, and budget. These inputs are transmitted through Base44’s AI/LLM integration for the purpose of generating recipes.
Kitchen Compass does not sell personal information or share personal information for third-party advertising.
Kitchen Compass does not use collected information for cross-app or cross-site tracking.
Live retailer pricing is disabled in Kitchen Compass v1.0. No live retailer-price requests are made on a user’s behalf.
3. LOCATION AND STORE DISCOVERY
When you enter a ZIP code for store discovery, the ZIP code is transmitted to Google Geocoding through Google Maps services to resolve an approximate location.
Coordinates derived from that ZIP code are then used with Google Places to identify nearby grocery stores.
Google does not receive Kitchen Compass account information or precise device GPS coordinates through this ZIP-based store-discovery process.
If you separately choose “Use my current location,” precise device coordinates are transmitted transiently to OpenStreetMap Nominatim solely to reverse-geocode your location into a ZIP code. Those precise coordinates are not stored by Kitchen Compass and are not linked by Kitchen Compass to your account.
4. HOW INFORMATION IS STORED
Kitchen Compass uses Base44 for platform services including hosting, authentication, account management, application data, backend functions, AI/LLM integration, and data storage.
Saved recipes, shopping lists, pantry items, sessions, and related application information may be stored in association with your authenticated account.
Your ZIP code may also be stored as part of Session, Recipe, and ShoppingList records.
Some app preferences and shopping-list state may be stored locally on your device to support application functionality.
5. DATA RETENTION
We retain account and app data for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Kitchen Compass and fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law.
Users may request deletion of their account data by contacting kitchencompasssupport@gmail.com.
Certain information may be retained where required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or legitimate operational purposes.
6. HOW WE PROTECT INFORMATION
Kitchen Compass uses platform-managed authentication and security controls provided through Base44.
Application credentials and API secrets are maintained through protected platform mechanisms and are not intentionally exposed through the application interface.
Error telemetry is sanitized before transmission and is designed not to include raw stack traces, error messages, authentication tokens, or personally identifiable information.
No method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but we use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the information and services involved.
7. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
Kitchen Compass relies on certain service providers to operate the application.
Base44
Base44 provides services including hosting, authentication, account management, application data storage, backend functions, analytics/diagnostics, and AI/LLM integration used for recipe generation.
Information processed through Base44 may include account information and application data necessary to provide Kitchen Compass functionality.
Google Places and Google Maps
Google services are used for grocery-store discovery.
The ZIP code you provide may be transmitted to Google Geocoding, and approximate coordinates derived from that ZIP code may be used with Google Places to identify nearby stores.
Kitchen Compass does not send your Kitchen Compass account information or precise device GPS location to Google through this store-discovery process.
OpenStreetMap Nominatim
If you choose the optional “Use my current location” feature, precise device latitude and longitude coordinates are transmitted transiently to OpenStreetMap Nominatim solely to reverse-geocode your location into a ZIP code.
Kitchen Compass does not store those precise coordinates or link them to your Kitchen Compass account.
8. ADVERTISING AND TRACKING
Kitchen Compass does not use advertising SDKs or advertising identifiers for cross-app or cross-site tracking.
Kitchen Compass does not use your information for third-party advertising.
Kitchen Compass does not sell your personal information.
9. YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including rights to request access to or deletion of certain information.
You may also remove certain saved information directly through Kitchen Compass, including saved recipes, shopping-list information, and pantry items where those controls are available.

We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests in order to protect your account and information.
10. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
Kitchen Compass is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to Kitchen Compass in a manner that requires deletion under applicable law, please contact us at kitchencompasssupport@gmail.com.
11. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy as Kitchen Compass changes or as legal, operational, or privacy requirements evolve.
When we make changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy. Where required by applicable law, we will provide additional notice of material changes.
12. APPLICABLE LAW
Kitchen Compass handles personal information in accordance with applicable privacy and data-protection laws.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information.
