Philosophy of Education

Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This quote perfectly represents my beliefs on education. I believe education truly is the most valuable tool offered to mankind. Education serves several different purposes; however, I consider the primary purpose of education to prepare our youth with the necessary skills and knowledge they will need to become successful individuals.

I believe that all students want and need to learn. While students come from varying backgrounds with different identities and needs, the way in which they access education looks different. While it is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure that all students can access what they need, students must also be held accountable for their contributions towards their education as well. Regardless of the difficulties that arise, it is important that students are able to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to continue to grow as individuals.

I believe that my role as a teacher is to create and maintain a safe and positive learning environment in which all students are able to excel. I will achieve this by building strong relationships with my students and building a classroom community that feels like family. As a teacher, I make it a priority to construct and enforce rules that maintain this learning environment and allow students to build healthy relationships with the peers around them. I believe it is vital that all decisions I make are based on the best interest of the students. The needs and safety of the students must always come first.

My personal teaching style can be best described as differentiated, engaging, and student-centered. I recognize that not all students learn the same way or at the same level or speed. It is my responsibility to ensure that the lessons I teach are differentiated and inclusive in such a way that all students are reached and receive exactly what they need to be successful with the content. I am educated on several different techniques and methodologies that will supplement the curriculum in the best way possible. By accurately adjusting the way the material is presented, students will benefit greatly and be able to accelerate in class.

To conclude, I am a firm believer that education is the most valuable tool which allows humans to become the best versions of themselves. I am certain that an elementary level classroom must be a physically and emotionally safe place for every student. Students should be given the instruction and tools that they need in order to succeed in class. My goal is to instill a passion and a sense of excitement for learning in the students. Students that I come in contact with will remember me as a teacher who truly cared about their well-being and educational success and as someone who always goes the extra mile.
