This section of my portfolio is dedicated to family and community engagement. I believe that communication with my students' families is so important. I make it a priority to ensure that families are aware of what their child is learning and working on when they are at school. I am able to do this effectively by sending home weekly/monthly newsletters. In addition, I communicate with parents regarding their child's behavior, attitude, efforts, and progress in school. I achieve this through phone calls as well as sending home "happy mail" notes and individualized behavior charts. I create a clear line of communication by ensuring families have my e-mail and are connected with my Class Dojo account. In my teaching experience thus far, I have been involved with several after school and community events including: student sports events, open houses, parent teacher conferences, a Dr. Suess event, a family math night, a family literacy night, holiday celebrations, etc. My objective is to promote involvement and positive relationships with families and communities my students belong to.
