Business Projects
Our strategy has been to remove some of the most basic obstacles to development and then introduce medium tech, high concept economic opportunities in areas where these opportunities do not exist. This strategy is working in a sustainable way beyond our expectations, and at a very reasonable cost per capita.
KEHF and KICHIN are investigating several viable business models for the member families of KICHIN. Business ventures being assessed include egg production, environmentally green brick making, coffee production, fruit juice production, and soap making. KICHIN believes that with any of these businesses production should require individual responsibility and accountability but that the job training and product marketing would be a cooperative venture.
Business Development Center
Justine Sebagereka’s family has donated an acre of land to KEHF/KICHIN for the construction of a multi-use Business Center in Kigalama at a location that has access to electricity. This center will house the KICHIN office as well as a clinic for Dr. Mugambe to work out of when he visits. It will also serve as a central location for job training and development of business skills, production space, a marketing office for export and distribution of products or produce, and product storage space.
The initial building will be about 4-5,000 sq. feet, with enough adjacent land for future expansion. KICHIN has an established organizational structure and will manage the facility with a full-time manager. This will be developed to be an environmentally friendly project. It will include a well and septic system. KEHF envisions having a vehicle under the control of the KICHIN Cooperative that can be used for local transport groups of 15-20 people for meetings and group events.
