About Me

R.L Stine, Marc Brown, and I following my interview as a reporter for the Denver Post.

My Journalism Journey

In elementary school, my passion for journalism began to blossom when I started writing for the Colorado Kids section of the Denver Post. I felt honored to be selected to interview Temple Grandin, Cynthia Lord, R.L. Stine, and Marc Brown. I learned the basics of journalism and began to strengthen my skill set during this time. As a reporter for the first newspaper at Rocky Heights Middle School, The Nighthawk Post, I recapped multiple school events and began taking on leadership roles by engaging others in student journalism. Through the Youth Journalism Day event from the Denver Post, I have been a mentor to young students, guiding and training them to be journalists. As a staff member of my middle school yearbook, I worked to amplify student voices through journalism. In both middle school and high school, I have written as an intern for the Castle Pines Connection. Presently, I am an editor in chief for The Rock, Rock Canyon High School's student newspaper. I have gained further insight into the inner-workings of journalism by attending a JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in Washington D.C. This year, I have won four Best of Student Newspaper Online awards and multiple Best of Colorado Awards for my work in past years. This summer, I started the Youth Coronavirus Media Coalition (YCMC) through the Coronavirus Visualization Team (CVT), a nonprofit founded out of Harvard University. The YCMC evolved into the CVT's public relations department and this summer, I've been working as a Co-Director of public relations. Six examples of my most improved and in depth work are present in the "Journalism" tab on this website (to access articles, click on the link in each story title).
