Personal Projects

Here you will find all the stuff i create in my spare time.

Level Design Block out Speed test: In this video, i made a mock up from a favourite game of mine, Monster Hunter World.

(DnD) The Emotional Spectrum

Here you will find some of the DnD power systems i have designed from scratch. To make these i often take into account the pros and cons of Player Action Economy, damage balancing and player party flexibility.

UI/UX Work

During my time at VFS i broke down League of Legends UI and Apex Legends UI. Compared them to show good cases of UI and where they could be improved.

Good UX/UI in League of Legends:

The UI in League of Legends (Champion Select) is incredibly simple yet intricate. This screenshot both showcases what you need to know, from the champion select, to where you will go on the map.(Pictured in the first screenshot) This becomes even more apparent after you select your champion, the map will show you where you have been chosen to go (Compulsion)

The UI in this game gives the player a good experience because the UI is organized in a way that is easy to digest. (Comprehension)

Pictured in the first screenshot there are 5 insignias above the ‘random’ icon that signify the different roles in the game, when the button is clicked, the champion will sort themselves into their respective positions. This leads to good UX(Control) because people can find what they're looking for quickly, not to mention with a single button press. There is also a search bar that responds to single keystrokes.

The comprehension here is easy to understand because everyone who uses a computer, would know how to use a search bar. This is not an assumption but a claim, because to download the game you would have to search it up.

Good UX/UI: In Apex Legends, the game in the screenshot, the UI is simplistic and easy to read. The feedback, the SFX and visual effects are clear and concise. The yellow numbers and Red X on the screen indicate a headshot, and a killing blow on an enemy.(Comprehension) When the enemy goes down it also makes a specific noise. All of these factors, when they are put together make for an amazing experience in a very fast paced shooter where you have to make split second decisions. (Compulsion)

Another case of good feedback in Apex Legends is when you use one of the Legends’ abilities. In the gif pictured below, the Legend, Octane, is using his main ability, Stim. The ability speeds up the character by 30% to make him sprint faster than any character in the game at the cost of 10% of his maximum HP. The UI feedback in this is quite spot on.(Compulsion)The player gets this green effect around the corner of your screen, indicating that you’re now sprinting hard. The player also starts to see their HP bar flash red but you’re now moving faster than anybody.
