The “Wilderness Rim” section includes the major communities and some of the Bush Villages in the vast outer regions of Alaska that are accessible only by air.
Bethel is in the “Wilderness Rim”. Located on the North bank of the Kuskokwim River near where the river flows into the Bering Sea. Population: 3,681 - the largest town in western Alaska - a large Eskimo trading center.
Nyac (New York and Alaska Company) is 70 air miles east of Bethel. This is where the gold mine is located.
Chuck Awe is part owner and a very good friend of Debra and Paul’s. The week of July 2nd through the 8th in 1985, they asked Walt to accompany them while Vi had fun with Sara at Judy and Lee’s place.
