Seven Saxon Kings Tapestries Project May 2024
Kingston upon Thames had significant historic importance during Anglo-Saxon times. Seven Saxon Kings, including the first 'Kings of England' are thought to have been crowned on the site where All Saints Church now stands which was an important estate of the West Saxon Kings.
The ambition of this project is to bring Kingston's heritage alive and make it accessible to residents and visitors.
Seven spectacular and unique tapestries are planned, depicting the Kings with rich imagery. Four have been completed and can be seen in All Saints Parish Church in the town centre.
David Robinson talked about the history of the Kings of England, their realms and how England eventually become one country.
Leo Duff then told us how the tapestries have been designed and created by talented contemporary artists. Examples of the tapestry work were laid out for us to see close up and handle.
