23rd June 2025 ~ Natasha Reid reports that she has heard from Ron Penfold that Vera is in hospital. Natasha visited her recently and she is very poorly. Doctors have confirmed that she is now having palliative care, but there is no news as to whether she will stay in hospital, move to a hospice, or return home.
Bunty (Rose) Harlow
Bunty sadly passed away on 18th June 2025.
Bunty joined KURSA over ten years ago and was an active and supportive member attending numerous activities, particularly talks and coffee mornings. She will always be remembered as someone who enjoyed life to the full ~ happy, smiling, joking, she was a pleasure to know. She will be missed.
A memorial gathering for Bunty took place on Friday 22nd August at Brown's Brasserie, Kingston Riverside.
We heard that John Reid, Natasha's husband, would reach the grand age of 97yrs on 16th March 2025, the same day as the talk about the history of Kingston, so we took the opportunity to celebrate with him ... and a cake was provided!
Jill Thorpe
Longer standing members may remember Jill who was was chair of KURSA for many years.
Sadly, Jill passed away on 30th January 2025 at the Moore Place Care Home in Esher where she had spent her last years. Her daughter Fiona said that she died peacefully at 92 of "old age" after a wonderful and fulfilling life.
Natasha Reid had recently visited her with Fiona. Jill had been in good spirits and although she had become less mobile, at times her sharp memory betrayed her age. She was very glad to see Natasha and Jill and was cheerful before they left her.
She had been delighted to see the flowers from all of us in KURSA ~ apparently yellow was one of her favourite colours!
Jill had been a member of KURSA for over 20 years and involved herself fully in the Association. She attended numerous events, was a committee member for many years as Minutes Secretary and then as Chairman for five years.
Jill's funeral took place on Friday March 14th at Randalls Park Crematorium, Leatherhead.
Gladys Sellwood
Gladys sadly passed away on 12th June 2024. Her son, Bob, said she was comfortable and not in any pain.
Gladys was a long-standing member of KURSA, possibly from its start in 1994, and until a year or two ago, was an active participant in many KURSA events.
In spite of her disabilities she remained a happy character and quite witty when the mood took her.
Gladys' funeral took place at Kingston Crematorium on Friday 5th July 2024.
If anyone would like to contribute a message or donate to the charities, an on-line page has been set up by the family. The link is;
Gillian Davies
Gillian Davies passed away on 12th June 2024 in the care home where she had been for the past four years, the same day as Gladys Sellwood.
Gill was a long-standing member of KURSA who until the last few years attended many of our events. She was also an active member of the Committee for a number of years looking after catering and also sharing the role of arranging speakers for our events at Penrhyn Road. With her fellow member, Jill Thorpe, she also organised a very successful few days outing to the Isle of Wight for quite a large group of members.
Gill's funeral took place at Kingston Crematorium on 9th July 2024.
Dave Brooks
Having been in a nursing home near Weybridge since August 2024, Dave Brooks sadly passed away on 26th November 2024 in St Peter's Hospital after many years of poor health.
Dave worked in Property Services at the University for many years. He was well known for his exotic birds and his membership of several Fish Clubs. A long-standing KURSA member, but due to his heath over the last few years he attended few events.
Dave's funeral was 20th December 2024 at Kingston Crematorium.
Richard Ennals
We have heard the sad news that Richard Ennals, who used to work in the Business School, Kingston University, passed away on 10th December 2024 at the age of 74.
