The United States Service Academies are an elite set of colleges that are a commissioning source for officers in the military. The admissions process is rigorous and competitive but those who get accepted are given world-class education and leadership programs. Tuition is free along with room and board, with graduates only owing five years of service to the country as commissioned officers. To apply, cadets will need to also send an application for a nomination from a congressman, at the same time as their academy application. More information can be found on the academy admissions page.
Established on April 1st, 1954, the United States Air Force Academy is the youngest service academy. Regardless, it is an elite academy that trains and commissions cadets for the US Air Force and the US Space Force.
