Awarded, WHEN EARNED, to any NJROTC cadet who distinguishes him/herself only by outstanding meritorious achievement or performance of a meritorious act. Excludes such things as length of participation in the NJROTC unit, or sustained superior performance in a leadership position. Awarded on a case-by-case basis by the area manager.
Awarded YEARLY to cadets who were unit members during the academic year in which the school earned the Distinguished Unit status. Awarded to only 30% of the total number of NJROTC units in the program.
Awarded YEARLY to one cadet in each year group with the highest combined average for overall scholastic standing and aptitude in NJROTC.
Awarded YEARLY to one cadet in each year group with the highest overall academic achievement (GPA) in school.
Awarded, WHEN EARNED, to any cadet who distinguished him/herself by outstanding achievement or sustained superior performance. The cadet must exhibit exceptional military aptitude and dedication to the program as well as overall excellence in all facets of NJROTC. Awarded on a case-by-case basis by the area manager.
Awarded YEARLY to cadets in good standing who were unit members during the academic year in which the school earned the Unit Achievement status as determined by the Area Manager. Awarded only to those units that demonstrated exceptional performance, but did not qualify for Distinguished Unit
status.
Awarded YEARLY to outstanding cadets who demonstrate military aptitude and dedication to the NJROTC program. B average in military grades leadership, uniform, drill, and PT.
Awarded YEARLY to outstanding cadets in Naval Science 4 based a grade of 85 or above for the year.
Awarded YEARLY to outstanding cadets in Naval Science 3 based a grade of 85 or above for the year.
Awarded YEARLY to outstanding cadets in Naval Science 2 based a grade of 85 or above for the year.
Awarded YEARLY to outstanding cadets in Naval Science 1 based a grade of 85 or above for the year.
Awarded YEARLY to each cadet who demonstrates exemplary conduct for the school year by receiving at least a B average in leadership grade.
Awarded, WHEN EARNED, to each cadet who has met any of the following academic award criteria:
A. Honor Roll – Awarded ONCE ANNUALLY upon completion of the minimum requirement, to any cadet who attains school honor roll status equal to 50% or more of the academic year (need not be sequential). The 1st award is the ribbon with a bronze lamp.
2nd Award – Silver Lamp
3rd Award – Gold Lamp
4th Award – Gold Anchor
B. Academic Team – Awarded ONCE ANNUALLY upon completion of the minimum requirement, to any cadet who is a member in good standing of the Academic Team and has participated in three or more academic competitions. The 1st award is the ribbon with a gold torch. Subsequent awards are as follows:
2nd Award – Bronze Star
3rd Award – Silver Star
4th Award – Gold Star
Awarded, TWICE A YEAR, to each cadet who displays exemplary personal appearance and has worn his/her uniform on all occasions required. Must have B average in Uniform grade Semester.
At the annual military inspection, the inspecting officer will award the EPA ribbon to cadets who receive an outstanding during the personnel inspection and have maintained an at least a B average or above for the year.
Awarded, TWICE A YEAR, to any cadet who meets or exceeds the basic physical fitness exercise requirements as outlined in the Cadet Reference Manual.
Awarded, WHEN EARNED, to any cadet who has participated in three events other than routine unit activities. Two per year.
Awarded to any cadet who has demonstrated exemplary service and dedication to the unit as determined by the NSI. (8 hours of service or approval of the SNSI for a particular event)
Awarded, TWICE A YEAR, to any cadet in good standing who distinguishes him/herself by dedicated and outstanding service to the community. 3 community service events or 9 hours of community service on their own (with prior approval of the NSI).
Awarded, TWICE A YEAR, to each member of a drill team in good standing who has been on the floor for two competitions, or has attended practice regularly a and attend three drill meets
Awarded, TWICE A YEAR, to each member of a color guard in good standing who has entered one competition, or preformed at three or more official functions.
Awarded, TWICE A YEAR, to any cadet in good standing who has entered any competition.
Awarded, TWICE A YEAR, to any cadet in good standing who has entered any organized orienteering competition, or who meets the orienteering qualification standards.
Awarded, WHEN EARNED, to a cadet who is instrumental in the enrollment of two students in the NJROTC program or a cadet that actively participates in two recruiting events.
Awarded to any cadet upon satisfactory completion of basic Leadership Training, Leadership Academy or any similar training as approved by the Area Manager.
Awarded to any cadet upon completion of an at – sea cruise (vessel must cast off lines and be underway), or has completed Sail Academy
Awarded to Cadets who have been selected as Cadets of the Month, Cadets of the Quarter, and Cadet of the Semester. One NS1 and one NS 2-4 is selected during an awarding period.
Awarded to Cadets who have placed in any events in the annual Seawolf Challenge held in the unit
In addition to ribbons, Cadets can also earn medals to display on their uniforms. The ones listed below are typically awarded during the annual Awards Ceremony, but there are also numerous medals that are earned from placing at competitions, recognition from an esteemed organization, and other sources. The instructions for wearing the medals are listed in the Cadet Field Manual.
The Order of Daedalians is a Fraternity of commissioned military pilots from all military services. The award consists of a medal and a ribbon bar. The medal is fashioned after an ancient Grecian plaque that depicts Daedalus and his son Icarus fabricating their legendary wings of wax and feathers. To be eligible for an award the candidate must:
•Demonstrate patriotism, love of country, and service to our nation.
•Indicate the potential and desire to pursue a military career.
•Rank in the upper 10% of the JROTC class.
•Rank in the upper 20% of the high school class.
The recipient will be selected by the senior JROTC instructor who coordinates the selection and the presentation with the Order of Daedalians. A member of the Order of Daedalians should present the medal if possible. However, the senior JROTC instructor may present the award if a member of the organization cannot make the presentation.
The MOAA Junior ROTC (JROTC)/ROTC awards program recognizes an outstanding cadet or midshipman in his or her next-to-last year in the program who has demonstrated exceptional potential for military leadership (exceptional academic achievement in the case of the Marine Corps JROTC [MCJROTC] program.)
To be eligible for an award, a candidate must
be in the next-to-last year of an ROTC or JROTC program;
be in good academic standing;
be of high moral character;
demonstrate a high degree of loyalty to the unit, school, and country; and
demonstrate exceptional potential for military leadership.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart Award recognizes demonstrated leadership ability in a cadet/midshipman enrolled in an ROTC/JROTC program in a High School, College, University or Trade School.
Each cadet/midshipman must:
Be an Underclassman (Seniors ARE NOT eligible);
Have a positive attitude toward ROTC/JROTC and country;
Hold a leadership position in the cadet corps;Be active in school and community affairs;
Attain a grade of “B” or better in all subjects for the previous semester; and
Not been a previous recipient of this award.
This distinction recognizes high school youth enrolled in the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) with an award for their scholastic excellence and demonstrated ideals of Americanism.
In order to be eligible for this recognition, the cadet must:
Have contributed the most among cadets on campus to encourage and demonstrate Americanism by deeds or conduct during participation in extracurricular activities or community projects;
Have demonstrated academic excellence by being in the top 25% of his or her academic class;
Have demonstrated a potential for outstanding leadership by exhibiting qualities of dependability, good character, self-discipline, good citizenship and patriotism; and
Not have previously received this award.
Cadet must:
Be in good standing in all military aspects and scholastic grades at the time of selection and presentation of the award.
Have shown marked improvement in both military and scholastic grades at the time of selection and presentation of the award.
Have indicated by military and scholastic grades, integrated-curricular activities, or individual endeavor with a desire to serve his or her country.
Not have previously received this award.
Participate in the program the following semester.
Awarded to cadets who are assigned the billet of Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, or Command Master Chief.
Awarded to cadets who are assigned to a Staff Billet.
Awarded to cadets who are in the Field Meet Team
Awarded to cadets have preformed for 3 or more official functions.
Awarded to cadets who are in the Cyberpatriot Team
Awarded to cadets have competed in an Orienteering competition.
Awarded to cadets have competed in a Marksmanship competition.
Awarded to cadets who are in the Physical Training team. (Not including Field Meet PT Team)
Awarded to cadets who are in the Academic team. (Not including the Field Meet Academic team)
