Pre-Jacintoan Era

Before our founder even knew about micronationalism, in 2021, he started the short-lived Second Republic of Texas in the video game Minecraft.

Early History and the Tacoland Wars

Betelgeuse was founded by jan Pipo in November of 2023 as the Republic of Jacinto, named after the Battle of San Jacinto, which made Texas independent back in 1836. This stage of micronationalism was light and not nearly as heavily active as Betelgeuse is today. In mid-July, it changed its name to the Republic of Betelgeuse, and it claimed the star of the same name

When the President and Founder attempted to introduce micronationalism to his friend, he instead created an imaginary sci-fi superpower called Tacoland, which he claimed time-traveled from the far future to the beginning of time to start. Although relations were well at first, a land dispute over Martian territory sparked the First Tacoland-Betelgeusan War from August 26-28 of 2024, resulting Tacoland to cede a strip of land on Pluto to it and Tacoland renting lands it ceded to Betelgeuse on the Sun. Then, it became a monarchy, shortly before the Second Tacoland-Betelgeusan War broke out, resulting in the occupation of Tacoland from October 2025 to May 2025, before granting its independence.

Post-Isolationist Era

As Tacoland became inactive, the Prime Minister developed its Constitution in May. On late May, Betelgeuse claimed that Steve's Rebellion broke out. Then, on June 21st, Betelgeuse formed an alliance with Podland. However, it also dragged Betelgeuse into the Tariff War against Objectland. As a result, it created the Rio Grande Accords, and on June 29th, the war ended as a white peace.

From late June to Early July, Podland and Betelgeuse fought Bumland and the Fascist Dictatorship of Smart (later Popland) in the Bumlard War, which were micronations of ''ragebait''. Although Podland and Betelgeuse misunderstood this ragebait, they won in the end, partitoning Smart in the process, although Bumland would reemerge later. From July 23 to July 24, 2025, Betelgeuse began Operation Crimson Fool, where the government staged a hack of the official Youtube Channel by Bumland. Understandably, many rightfully criticized this event of deceit, including Podland and Anniephantia.

August and September of 2025

In early August, Betelgeuse faced a war with Newbornbarfbruh due to a territorial dispute. Since August 13th, Betelgeuse gave the Closet Colony (now the municipality of Clozhetia) to Podland, in exchange for getting to print a unique version of the Podland Dollar. On August 16th, an incident occured in poorly governed territory in which a sign greeting people to Betelgeuse was replaced with "Welcome to the Kingdom of G-d"  A few days before Black Thursday, Betelgeuse stepped in on Podland's side of its conflict with Serarin, but no one would have expected the outcome of what was to follow.

Black Thursday is the Betelgeusan term for August 21st, 2025, the fallout of the deletion of Podland's micronational Youtube channel. In the early morning, the Prime Minister found that Podland's Youtube channel was gone. Later that evening, a Podlandish government-in-exile was created, whose base was the Podlandish embassy at Friendship City. Not only did the news spread quickly between micronations, but even Bumland's government got serious in the gravity of the situation. However, Serarin was quickly defeated for its anti-Podlandish rumors.

On September 3rd, the Plants v. Zombies rebellion was established, which was made up of two cliques: the Plants Clique, and the Zombies Clique. On September 4th, Betelgeuse confirmed their possesion of a nuclear bomb and counterattacked the rebellion. The next day, Betelgeusan forces seized the nuclear bomb.

On September 5th, the leader of Podland, MintyFlinty, gave it to the Betelgeusan Prime Minister. On September 11th, the Republic of Edinland became active again. That same day, Betelgeuse joined the war against the Kingdom of Jaylish, but developments of the war have yet to be made. On September 19th, Betelgeuse began production the movie BEACON 1. On September 21st, the third Objectlandic-Podlandish Crisis occured over Objectlandic claims in Clozhetia. On September 22nd, the Podo-Betelgeusan Union dissolved.

On September 28th, the former leader of Plants v. Zombiesland declared his MSM lego set to be a separate country. This was misunderstood by the Betelgeusan government to be a rebellion, but on October 1st, My Singing Monstersland was left to be a nanonation.

Late History

On October 9th, the Anti-Betelgeusian Organization was created by Bedonia and Objectland. The following day, Betelgeuse made its Final Assault against Tacoland, causing it to stop existing. Its remaining lands became the settlement of New Leeds. On October 12th, at 8:00 PM CDT, Betelgeuse stopped recognizing all members of the Anti-Betelgeusan Organization, with the Dormian Embassy being demolished the following day. On October 14th, the Objectlandic Embassy was destroyed.

On October 14th, an executive order was signed giving all power to the Prime Minister, who crowned himself Emperor. On October 18th, the Empire rejected the harsh Treaty of Quanty that Dormia made, and accepted Macroland's apology for their actions. As a result, their alliance was resumed. After increased lobbying from various other micronations, the Kingdom was restored on October 19th.

On the same day that the Kingdom of Betelgeuse was restored, the micronation accepted an invite from the Unified People's States to join Nova Associate Micronational Organisation. At last, on October 24th and 25th, Betelgeuse's allies signed the New Treaty of Quanty to end GMW2. On October 29th, the Betelgeusan Air Force was created, with the Navy being created the following day. On November 3rd, Betelgeuse made an alliance form to become more professional.

In early November, Betelgeuse challenged Puertoria's antarctic claims. After Puertoria threatened to partition Upper Egypt and Betelgeuse, the nation surrendered, fearing it would be publicly humiliated.

Shortly after the conflict ended, Dormia was promoted to Vice Leader of a Micronational Organization by the name of the Unified Micronational Assembly. Since the UMA has an anti-Galassian bias, Betelgeuse didn't like that; they formed their own rival organization called the Union of Free Micronations. However, some micronations, like Gatvya and Carolania did not want to be in the alliance. Carolania even spoke about this in a few of his community posts. After a while, Betelgeuse then disbanded the organization. Even though peace is flourishing between both Dormia and Betelgeuse, diplomatic relations still need more time to repair.

On November 18th, Avnious decided to betray Betelgeuse. The following day, after Avnious surrendered, Betelgeuse colonized the nation. However, after a rebellion broke out, more autonomy was given to the region.

On December 1st, Serarin formally declared war on Betelgeuse. That same day, another rebellion broke out in Avnious, this time, a pro-Serarin rebellion. Although Betelgeuse gave them independence, they had to switch sides in the war. A few days later, the war ended in a stalemate.

On December 6th, 2025, jan Pipo sent a message to its allies, requesting that they unally with Dormia if possible. He also noticed that Dormia made a Sora video publicly mocking the Kingdom of Betelgeuse, and calling our prime minister a 5 year old.

On December 7th, Avnious escalated the tensions by declaring war on Dormia, with Betelgeuse following suit. Shortly after, the Dormian embassy in Betelgeuse got demolished for a second time. Later that day, Gatvya responded by declaring war on Betelgeuse, before calling our prime minister fat and stupid. Many other events happened in the war, but it ended on December 15th. That same day, Betelgeuse abolished most forms of online war. 

On January 7th, Betelgeuse finally let Plants vs. Zombiesland and My Singing Monstersland go as independent micronations.
