We are Kindred Hearts
About us
Our rescue is run by our Founder Charity Howell along with volunteers, and fosters from within the community.
Charity has a deep appreciation for animals great and small and has dedicated her life to saving them. Her journey began long ago as she began taking in orphaned and abandoned pets long before she met the dog that would change her perspective and life.
Charity began volunteering and working with local animal welfare organizations when she was 14 years old. She did her first volunteering with the Helen O Krause Organization as her senior project for high school. It's then that she learned just how dire the need for more people to step up and educate and advocate to the public and for companion animals who suffer every day. From that point forward she always had animals in her home and her care. She also committed her time to volunteering with organizations like Humane Societies, Shelters, and Rescues.
In 2020 Charity was visiting a local rescue and had the opportunity to sit in the small dog area, where she met Buddy. Buddy was a 10-11 year old Miniature Pinscher who was the rudest little dog you ever could meet. He didn't want anyone to pick him up, to touch him, or to even speak to him. He would growl and snap if you even looked in his direction. Charity decided he needed love and to come home with her. So he did. It turns out he had good reason to be angry. The poor old boy had a tumor growing just beneath his heart and his heart was working extra hard making him tired and grumpy. Once he got to the vet and was put on medication for pain and to ease the fluid in his lungs he became a much different dog. Although he still grumped about being woken too early or being moved about when he didn't want to, he began to give kisses and the best hugs you could ever imagine from a dog. Instantly Charity saw things more clearly now. She knew she wanted to help more animals, specifically senior Animals. Animals that might need extra care, time, and patience.
In October of 2023 after his passing, Buddy became the face of Charity's Rescue and believes companion animals deserve understanding, respect and their lives are valued equal to that of any living being.
As of today Charity has built a small communal cat room in her home and reaches out to people who can foster cats she takes in until they become adopted. Her goals are to obtain property where she can feature cats that need homes and to open and expand her rescue efforts to dogs as well. Currently, she accepts small animals like birds, ferrets, and cats with hopes of bigger and better things to come!
