We advocate for an academia that fosters kindness, collaboration, ethical behaviour, and a healthy working environment.
Academia is often viewed as a competitive, individualistic, uncertain working place with an enormous workload and pressure to publish. Too often we hear from professors who created a culture of fear and misconduct victimizing generations of young researchers. It can and should be different!
Endorse
There are many different ways to endorse our mission, the most important is, of course, to practice what you preach!
As to the preaching part: you might consider devoting a paragraph on your website to your endorsement or sharing your personal perspective on kindness and excellence in your profession. Feel free to cite texts from our website (with proper reference), link to our website, or get in touch with us if you would like to support us in another way.
We are planning to put up a list of academics who endorse this project. Send us an e-mail if you want to be included.

The Kindness & Excellence in Academia initiative in The Netherlands is inspired by the Kindness in Science initiative in New Zealand and the Excellence and Kindness in Research Training (ELIS) initiative in Denmark. It is initiated by Rianne de Heide, and is a collaborative effort from a core team of enthusiastic academics from universities all over the Netherlands: Annika Betken, Vandana Dwarka, Ronald de Haan, Sophie Langer, Janusz Meylahn, and Marcello Seri.
