ClassDojo will be used as a communication tool between teacher and families in our classroom to share exciting activities, celebrations, reminders, and other notes or information about your child.
Students will have a blue take-home folder. Please check your student's blue folder every weekend for forms that need to be returned to school and for completed schoolwork that is meant to stay at home. The folder should come back to school each week in your child's backpack.
Our monthly learning targets will be posted on our class webpage at the start of each new month.
All email or ClassDojo communication will receive a reply within 48 hours -- although I always hope to give a quick response! If communication is received on a Friday, non-school day, or a day of my absence, the 48-hour window extends to the following school day. For time sensitive communication, please contact the main office.
Please contact the main office for all absence or transportation related communications: (360) 709-7350

When students are observed modeling school and class expectations, they receive a ticket. Students may also earn tickets by demonstrating growth in their behavioral choices, social-emotional skills, writing, math, and/or reading. When students earn 25 tickets, they get to choose a class coupon!

In Kindergarten, all students are going through big changes that are unique to themselves. The appropriate intervention or response will vary from one child to the next, and often it takes time to determine the most effective strategy or response. In this class, we do not believe in isolation of students or public attention that can result in feelings of humiliation. Instead, students will be presented with opportunities to regulate their feelings, reflect on their choices, and make an appropriate change that supports the whole child. Listed below are some general approaches and responses that may take place before contact home is deemed necessary.
In this class, there is a Regulation Station where students can choose to spend time at if they feel the need to regulate their feelings or calm their body.
A one-on-one conversation may be held with any student needing extra support to re-engage in class activities.
Students will have various seating options if sitting in a standard chair is not conducive to their learning or physical needs.
Students will be given reminders of class expectations, including verbal reinforcement and visual supports.
A student may be given a job or task to perform to encourage positive class engagement and contribution to the learning environment.
"Brain Breaks" will take place throughout the day for all students to benefit from. These will include forms of movement, music, breathing exercises, and imaginative play.
In some cases, a student might take a break with another teacher (buddy classroom) or visit our school counselor for additional support.
A student's guardian will be contacted if the previous interventions have proven unsuccessful, if an individualized plan has been established, and/or if the nature of an incident requires immediate attention from a guardian.
